Re: Smog Cops at it again in California...
Hi Steve,
Just curious as to your friend's Verde. What was his emission figures
from the old test? Was it clean or was it marginal? Did he clean his
injectors? Spray pattern and uniformity is important to pass the test
with flying colors.
The new dyno test puts load on your engine, so yes it is going to be
tougher. But the allowable limits are still the same. However since
it's now 2500 rpm under load and not no-load, it won't be as easy to
pass.
You can pass if you have a good efi system which you can adjust the
fuel and ignition values at various load and rpm values.
Unfortunately they (whomever they may be) don't allow you to "mess
around" with your EFI setup.
In other words they want you to fail. If they had half a brain they
would realize that older EFI systems cannot be adjusted to make it
cleaner and adjusting them is illegal.
The bottom line is they would like cleaner air, as I would too, but
they would like some money to go along with the cleaner air, which will
eventually come out of our pockets.
Have you thought about buying a new Hybrid Civic Steve? 8-)
