Re: Milano Aux radiator fan

Alan,

I had all the same problems this summer. I have a Milano Silver with a 3.0 Verde engine and a newly recharged AC.

I concur with AlfaBill about the need for a good working radiator. It was the last thing we replaced, because I thought it looks OK (don't ask me why? I am a moron), we replaced the thermostat, sender, water wetter etc... none made any appreciable difference, OK on the highway, overheats in town on hot days with AC on; finally we decided a new radiator is a good idea, it made all the difference in the world.

I had a spare 9" slim fan laying around my garage, so we also installed it in front of the radiator, wired to the AC for additional cooling. I am not sure if this was necessary but I thought it couldn't hurt. And after years of living with temperamental cooling in this car, I had assumed that it is just under cooled from Arese, but I now think it is adequate, if not Lexus like. The electric aux fan has got to help the efficiency of the AC, though, it blow wicked cool air.

The original fan is a puller (suck) type, it sucks the air through the radiator, thus it sits behind the radiator. If you want to install a fan in front of the radiator, it has to be the push (blow) type, the biggest that would fit into that space is about 10" with about 2.5" depth, fairly hard to find. Basically, get the slimmest fan you could find, 9" is great. It's hard to physically get the fan to fit into that space from the opening under the car's front valance. You simply can't get it in there through the front grill opening.

You will need to fabricate the brackets to hold the fan onto the radiator and wire it into the AC relay on the passenger sidewall of the engine.

I'd replace the radiator and the thermostat (may have been fried if the car overheats) first before I do anything else. The radiator is only $250, not pocket change, but money very well spent.

cheers,

- Steve.

I'm in the process of installing a secondary fan to keep the car running cool when the AC is on. All other attempts to keep it from over heating when the AC is on has failed. We've discuss this topic in great detail before so I won't get into specifics, but I've tried all suggestion and no luck.

My question; Is the original radiator fan on the Milano a "puller" fan or a "pusher" fan? And should I wire the Aux fan as a pusher or puller?

Thanks
Alan
