Brera
The July 29 issue of AutoWeek features a cover story on the Giugiaro Brera,
saying, among other things:
"Giugiaro and Alfa create exactly what we all want and call it Brera"
"...other engines still under consideration are the Cadillac Northstar V8
and the 2.5-liter and 3.0-liter turbocharged V6s already used throughout the
Alfa lineup. But if they can't roar like this lightweight Ferrari unit does
through the four exhaust tips, we vote no to any substitutes."
"learned projections say a Brera/GTV could come to us in 2006"
"...a low-volume chart-topper as this prototype suggests (300 to 500 units
at $100,000-plus per) or will it be slightly less schnazzy, higher volume
and more accessible to the less rich (10,000 at $55,000-plus?)"
The story hasn't been posted to their website yet, but check here for when
it will: http://www.autoweek.com/coverstory/index.mv
Yikes! As concept cars go, this working model with a Ferrari-sourced V8
engine producing 400 hp is certainly impressive, but is this consistent with
the Alfa Romeo brand? A $100,000 Alfa might as well be a Ferrari, a $55,000
Alfa could pass as a Maserati. Forget the V8, build a new glorious V6, keep
the price in the $35,000-$40,000 range. That's what I would recommend for a
USA-bound GTV.
