Diagnosis: if its the water pump you'll see tell-tale water spot stains on the underside of the hood where the pump pulley will have chucked the leaked coolant because the leak is always past the impeller shaft seal. If its the cap, you should see some of the coolant ponding in the gutter at the base of the top tank of the radiator.
