re: Glorious northern CA

Well, I am sure many of you who have lived in the bay area for many years do
tend to get galvanized by the traffic, but really, if you don't take advantage
of the opportunities (as one mentioned, the long coffee break), then you are
surely taking the area for granted. My uncle's passing, at age 46, was a
wake-up call to me, that life is too short, and too many things are put off
until tomorrow or the next day. Live life to its fullest...pass that SUV and
suck more of the spruce-enriched oxygen into the intakes of your engines!

Out here in redneck Alabama, my biggest fear is not being seen by someone in
their oversized pickup truck or Excursion. And gawd the humidity here. I
laughed as many folks inland were complaining of a heat wave, where temps
reached 101 (it was 103 in Fairfield on Monday when I stopped to visit another
relative). Back here, it's a nasty 90-95 with humidity at nearly the same as
the ambient temp, so it's no fun to be outdoors. However, our top-down season
is very long, and October/Nov/Dec are excellent months for driving.

Ted, if you take Cabrillo north into EG, and turn right at the harbor
stoplight, stay to the right at the next intersection, you'll be headed south
parallel to Cabrillo. Go about 2 blocks, and the smokehouse is on the left.
Unfortunately, unless someone can come in and pick up where Pat left off,
which would be near-impossible without his recipes, then the business is going
to disappear, along with the best smoked fish and cheese i've ever eaten. He
walked away with three blue ribbons from Seattle, so others appreciated it
too. Be sure to stop in at "Ketch Joanne" restaurant next to the harbor
docks. Joanne has had that restaurant open for 28 years, and the food is
great. Tell her, Heidi, or Albert I said hello please. They've given me good
reason to come back to HMB even though Pat is gone.
