Re: alfa-digest V8 #888

I likewise concur. As far as being embarrased to be an American goes, a buddy and I had a humorous and embarrassing conversation with an exchange student at the local high school (he's spending the summer in the USA too) who we met through our younger brothers. We told him that we were going up to Mid-Ohio for the race last weekend and he gave us an awfully funny, almost scared look. It eventually became apparent that he didn't know we had roadracing in the USA and he thought that we were going to some sort of oval race and suddenly lost a lot of respect for it. And speaking of our little brothers, NASCAR, and exchange students, last year they gave a German kid a NASCAR shirt and told him he had to wear it on the plane on the way home. We thought that was pretty hilarious, too. But yeah, NASCAR sucks. Maybe it's decent sport, in the sense that American football is (I know I'd rather watch grass grow), but from the perspective of a driver or an engineer, NASCAR isn't remotely interesting--it's not MOTORSPORT in the sense of what I'm looking for--neither the driving nor the technology is at all impressive. (Yes, I'm sure it takes plenty of skill to be the fastest hick around the circle, but it doesn't look hard, hence my statement that it's not as impressive as touring cars, WRC, F1, etc).

I completely, whole-heartedly, unabashedly, unreservedly and with
uncommon passion, concur.
