115 GTV door moldings

i'm working on installing the rubber door molding that runs completely
around the perimeter of the door on the driver side.

i don't need to tell anyone who's done it that it's a pain in the neck.

one thing, though, is that with it mostly installed (except for the bottom
edge), i can't close the door all the way; it latches on the secondary
latch slightly open.

additionally, when i close the door, it tends to push the gasket out of its
seat right where the window meets the door in the rear.

does anyone have any suggestions on fitting this gasket properly?
