164 Brake Light Problem

Don,

Thanks for the reply, I tested the relay and it's good. The bulbs all light when the blinkers or the headlights are on, just no brake lights! Any other ideas? Anyone?

Mark,

I have a 91S and had several brake light problems that drove me >>crazey. Here are some of the possibilities. First, it is seldom the >>switches at the pedal but instead either the relay or the lights >>themselves. The brake light relay is located in the engine >>compartment in the middle but slightly left (driver side) behind the >>firewall and under the plastic cover. Make sure this relay is >>working (just substitue one with the same number contacts from the >>fuse box), if not, it is often just dirty contacts - contact cleaner >>or WD 40 works. You will also get the lights if the one or more of >>the bulbs is/are bad or not making contact. Most people use the 2 >>filament "1056" but the heavier duty "2056" last longer. If you are >>getting no lights, I would put odds on the relay.

Subject: 164 Brake Light Problem

I have a 91 164L Auto that has no brake lights. When the brake pedal >is depressed both the "BRAKE" and "STOP" dash lights light up but no >brake lights. The blinkers and hazard lights work so I assume the >bulbs are good and there is power/ground to the rear lights. I have >changed both of the switches that are activated by the brake pedal, >one white one and one black one, I was able to take them off a parts >car but that didn't seem to make any difference!
I searched the archives a bit and found things similar but those >people's brake lights actually worked! Mine don't.....
Something I'm missing here? Any and all help greatly appreciated!
