Hmm, a problem I had with another (non-Alfa) car: how old is the
distributor?? I guess you are still using the original points-mechanism?? My
distributor was so worn that the timing kept changing: the cam could move
side-side. I got through numerous sets of points and condensers before I
found that. Apart from that, I guess the condenser could have gone short
circuit. :-(

I fixed it by fitting an electronic ignition (Lumenition) kit. Non-original
of course, but end of problem!
