re: used catalytic converters... a "NO-NO"



what they're trying to accomplish is keeping our air
clean.  there's no way they could regulate or monitor
all the possible changes that might affect emissions,
so they just ban any modifications.  unless it's been
proven to meet their standards and received the EPA or
CARB exemption.

the tests that we all go through to 'smog' our cars
are still nowhere near as stringent as the regulations
that new cars must meet, especially with the
introduction of OBDII.  you could swap cats, still
pass the local test, but be polluting more than the
original car.

on a more practical note, it's almost impossible to
know the condition of a used catalytic converter
without testing it on a dyno.  i'm a big believer in
used parts, but i'll never buy a used cat.
