it's the only way to be sure.

if the cylinder liner that loosened up is 1, 2, 4, or 5 you can
replace the O ring with the engine in the car, as you can remove
the lower oil pan section to get at the rod bolts.

if it's 3 or 6, you're going to have to pull the motor. once you pull the
motor, you might consider a general freshening, yes.
