When this EXACT same thing happened to me, and I had AAA tow the car to my
mechanic, it turned out to be merely the fuse. If you have a GTV-6, do
yourself a BIG favor. Replace EVERY fuse in the fuse box under the dashboard
(by the driver's left knee) with the Buss brand European replacement fuses.
As you know, the European fuses are made out of a piece of plastic dowel
with the ends pointed like a cone. The copper end caps and the actual fuse
link are all one piece and only the fuse link itself holds the damned things
together. This is lousy because everything is exposed. Just touching one can
ruin it because the acids in your in your finger oils will eat the extremely
thin metal of the fuse link and if your finger oils don't cause premature
fuse failure, the air-pollution will. The Buss fuses are made just like US
glass fuses with glass tubes containing the link and tin-plated end bells on
each end. The only difference is that to replace the lousy Euro-fuses, the
end bells are cone-shaped just like their European counterparts and are
direct replacements. When replacing a fuse in the GTV-6, always bend the
fuse holder tabs 'in' slightly to afford a better grip and a (little drop of
Stabilant or other contact 'enhancer' won't hurt either). The Buss fuses are
SOOOOOOO much better than the stock European ones, that once you replace
them, you will find that even some formerly chronic blown-fuse situations
will miraculously heal themselves. Also, keep a tin of the Buss "European
Replacement Assortment" (available at any Kragen or Pep Boys stores) fuses
in your glove-box too -just in case. This might just save you a AAA call for
when you REALLY need it, as well!
