Re: compression testing
saved this from the last time compressin testing came up, sorry i couldn't
find it yesterday when i sent in my comments, however, better late than
never??
these specific accounts are for Milano, but i think are easily
extrapolateable to Spider.

the engine must be warm, not hot. You do not have to
disconnect anything and the ignition switch remains OFF! Simply go to
the terminal block on the passenger side firewall that has a battery
cable and a smaller black wire on the terminals. Use a press to start
switch or buy a starter activating unit with alligator clips that you
connect to those terminals. Or you can short across the terminals with a
jumper to crank the engine from the engine room.

Subject: milano compression test
To do a compressioni (sic) test, don't turn on the ignition, just
use a jumper to trigger the starter solenoid. On the milano,
the most convenient place is the plastic connection block on the
firewall above the starter (passenger side on LHD models). The
spade plug connector side is for the solenoid triggering circuit
and the bolt connector side is hot from the battery.
Beforehand, take all the spark plugs out, and hold open the throttle
while cranking. This also works well for checking the valve clearances.
