Spider speedometer cable fixit

Hey all y'all,
(I've been told that is the proper southern plural of y'all)
The speedometer on my spider suddenly died the day before the car was going
for state inspection. what I found was that the cable where I comes out of
the transmission had been chewed from square to round. It seems that the
square tube at the transmission isn't square for any depth, just on the outer
end, so that eventually it wears the cable until it no longer contacts the
cable and speedo operation is lost. This happened twice on a previous
transmission.

I cleaned the damaged end to remove as much grease as possible and then built
up the low spots with a brazing rod of some type which they had down stairs in
the shop at work and then filed it down to the original size and shape.
Speedo operation is back to normal again. The brazed area is about 3/8'' long
and centered where the damage was. it seems that no flexibility is required
right here. I will still order a new one for that inevitable day.
