Roadworthy again, sunny weather , thoughts on buy nice or restore.
Hello Fellow Digesti- I just had to enthuse a bit here...after having the
car in the garage for over a month while I replaced the head gasket and
had the head reworked, I enjoyed immensely my commute home this evening,
top down and new Ansa rear exhaust singing to me! (Many thanks and kudos
to Wes I. for his expert guidance and tutelage as I worked through the
repairs.) I even took the long route home to extend the pleasure. I am a
new addict, having just purchased the car in March, but each time I drive
it, I become more into the experience. I think the part I enjoy most is
the relative rarity of the car. Looking forward to many years of Alfa
experiences to come. As regards the discussion here about whether to
buy a cherry Alfa or to get a rat and slowly bring it back to
Concourse-ness, I have been advised to buy the very best one you can find
and save yourself the money and frustration of trying to undo previous
owner's botched repairs and neglect, and while I don't doubt that this is
true, the thought of "saving" an Alfa from the wreckers definitely
appeals to me. My car is somewhere in the middle, driveable, but with
definite room for improvement, but I DO sort of wish I'd held out and
waited for a Duetto to come along. Maybe the solution is to get a
serviceable Alfa to enjoy, and a rarer, restorable project to pour your
creativity, energy and money into. My .02. Thanks for listening. Regards
all, Happy motoring! -P- '78 Spider with new headgasket.NWAROC, Seattle
