93 octane

When I bought my wife's 98 Mercury Mystique with the V6 the dealer had an
open house for new customers. Part of this was a tour of the service with a
talk by the service manager on how to care for our new cars. One of the
things he told use was to NOT use premium gas in our cars when it calls for
regular. I heard his reasons before so I knew what he was talking about. I'm
told that high octane gasoline burns slower the lower octane gasoline's and
they are used in high compression motor so that the flame front doesn't burn
to fast and cause the engine to knock. Correct me if I'm wrong , please.

Since my 91 Spider is 10:1 compression I've used nothing but premium for all
its 194,000+(S)miles and will continue for the next 194,000.
