Bellhousing wanted for '74 Spider
Hi Group:
First, thanks to everyone who responded to my message about the cracked
bellhousing on my Spider. Replies sent after Sunday afternoon likely
didn't get to me, due to a problem with my ISP (they mistakenly deleted 48
unread e-mails), but I did get enough info about several possible causes
for the cracked part.
Now I'm searching for a replacement bellhousing, but several questions have
been raised by some of the responses I received to my original
message. Will any 2-liter bellhousing work? I've been told that perhaps
only one from a '72 - '74 car will work, due to a clearance problem with
the later type ring gear. True? I've also heard that there are two
possible locations for the reverse light switch, and that those two
bellhousing types are not interchangeable. Since my car has not yet been
moved into the garage, I still haven't had a good look underneath, but is
there a way to tell the location of the reverse light switch before the
transmission is removed? Anything else I should know about which
replacement bellhousing I need?
Finally, anyone have a bellhousing they'd like to part with? As with all
things Alfa, cheaper is better, and close to Florida would be nice, too.
Regards,
