Re: SUV Thread(Mercedes vs Alfa)

Good grief--I certainly hope a lot of people choose a car because of
what THEY see, not others, and what THEY want as opposed to that which
will impress---

However, the real info I wanted to impart was the "race" I had
yesterday in my 164L vs a Mercedes SUV (ME 450???) I live on a mountain
road with lots of twists. As I was driving, I came up on a slow car,
and a Mercedes SUV came up on me---finally, the slow car got out of the
way and ZOOOOOM--off I went. Guess what? So did the Mercedes SUV.

Naturally, it was unacceptable for an SUV to be keeping up with me, so
I went faster. So did he. I finally pulled right and let him by, then
started dogging HIM.

Now, I may not be the cream of the crop in racing, but I do have
experience (and a license), and we were neck and neck, (and my car has
sport springs and shocks.) The SUV did NOT lean over much, seemed to be
able to drift, and was perfectly capable of keeping up (although I was
not as close to the limit as I would have been on a track). Perhaps he
was a reincarnation of Senna or somebody, and perhaps the SUV was race
prepped, but I doubt it.

So--if you have to have an SUV, the Mercedes is a good choice--it is
what I will get when I become rich and start trailering my cars to the
track.

the moral?--don't knock 'em all!
