Engine electronics

I predict a universal EPROM type engine management computer will emerge
long before the old IC units are unobtainable. All that is required is a
unit which can accept inputs from a variety of sensor types and be
programmed to utilize them correctly. There is no particular reason why an
engine management computer has to be in one particular format for any given
engine, it just needs to accept the inputs and produce the correct set of
ignition, fuel, and if applicable turbo boost maps. Surely a universal ecu
can't be too far away. Formula One essentially uses these now, programmable
from a standard laptop, if you have the software!

Cheers
