Vandenberg papers

John is quite right, it is spelled Vandenberg. : )

the fan is documented to produce only a 6 HP @ 5500 rpm improvement, or
detriment as the case may be. i seem to recollect but can't place where
the removal of the ran show a much more linear gain as RPMs rose.
perhaps it was one of Shankles leaflets.
the cams were tested on a webered car, not a Spica car and document only
a 4 hp gain at 5800 rpm over the stock 2 ltr cams.
i think that qualifies as "about" in both instances but may indeed
reflect a certain "optimism".

    The conclusion that.......

"This increase in power is small in both
comparisons, showing the efficiency of the stock Alfa motor to be
relatively
high for the street".

does not appear in the original article which can be found in the Oct.
1980 issue of the 'cams.

as for discouraging results for those hoping to buy and bolt on "great
gobs of power" I guess that depends on what you were expecting. 10 hp
isn't as much as one might hope, measured by the seat of the pants.

thanks John for keeping it real.

    Norm

interestingly, this particular exercise shows zero gain with the
shankle headers over the stock 74 cast iron units and indeed the the
stock system has a slight advantage at lower rpms.
there are alot of variables, aren't there??
