Abarth/Alfa upgrades
Bob in icy New York wondered about Abarth upgrades for the GTV6. About the
only messing around with Alfa that Carlo did was a show car in the
early-mid '50's, the record car, and the Alfa Abarth 1000, subject of a
recent thread. If one ignores the exhausts that were available for
anything on wheels, Abarth dealt almost exclusively with Fiat and then
Simca. After the Fiat takeover they were relegated to providing engines
for the Lancia rally cars. Now, it seems, they make sunglasses and
aftermarket front spoilers sold from the boutique corner of Fiat dealers to
boy racers.
As for books that summarize the company's performance upgrades, one can
read the Abarth Catalog Raisonne, Abarth Guide, Abarth Buyers' Guide, none
in print but available. If you try to glean any meaningful info out of the
Cosentino books, good luck.
Abarth the man and the factory had a bad habit of never making any two cars
exactly alike and apparently kept very few records. Just try to find out
anything about your car's history if you own one. AMHIK.
