Re: Dues

Fellow Alfaholics -

Having received various replies to my "whine," both
approving and reproving, let me say that (a) Yes, I
know everything has gotten more expensive, and (b)
Yes, I know that this is the first dues increase in
many many years...and I can only ask that, in light of
(a), then why (b)? Everything didn't get expensive all
of a sudden last year - it's been trending that way
since, oh, since they invented money, I guess. On the
other hand, I've always thought the dues were kinda
steep, and used to dread the part where I have to tell
the prospective member what all this wonderfulness is
gonna cost him. 

Comparisons to things like cigarettes and game tickets
be damned: $70 is about what I spend for a week's
worth of groceries, including a couple of bottles of
wine from Trader Joe's. I realize that most of my
fellow AROSC members will hardly notice the change -
the increase, after all, is roughly what each of us
paid for our meal at yesterday's get-together, and our
club demographic tends towards the prosperous anyway.
But that's an average, and it appears to be one I just
fell out of, and I'm not happy about it.
