re: alfa-digest V8 #361 - Engine mounts, elbows and incantations

OK, first the mea culpa -- I should have known better than to question the
collective experience of the digesti -- yes, three studs with nuts hold my
engine mounts to the block. Apparently the cumulative effect of 2 decades of
Oregon microbrew is that my eyes are not to be trusted.

I also found that, after removing the starter wires and the fuel lines to the
Spica pump for elbow room, I could reach the lower side of the intake-side
engine mount from above. At this point I found that all the advice I received
on what sort of wrench to use was not going to be much help -- I was able to
remove the nut with my fingers...

And two (or one bolt one stud) hold the rubber part of the mount to the
crossmember. So that is three pairs plus one, not three pairs, which is
partly what confused me.
You do not need to get underneath the car to undo the nut from the stud
on the under side of the motor mount. I do it from the top. Plus I suspect
that a ratchet end wrench will be too thick to get in there. The fit is tight
with a normal box end wrench and next to impossible if the mount has ballooned
and sagged with age.
