Scott,

Actually most parts suppliers classify it as a gasket but it looks 
sort of like a skinny metal doughnut. It slips over the male side 
of the connection and then the 2 flanges bolt together. It is 
designed to seal yet give some adjustment in the joint to allow 
for alignment. Good luck in the repair.
