Well, I'm glad you didn't ask for an expert opinion about this,
    I've rolled this matter around in my head a few times and I really think 
it's a matter of percieved inferiority. "more is better".
    We had a very popular model in the US that had three cylinders and I 
swear, it was a secret. Ask any Metro driver how many cylinders the car has 
and they will say either "I don't know" or "four". The Geo Metro had made 
great use of a three cylinder design but hardly anyone knew it had only three 
cylinders. If you never open the hood, you never know.
