Question about sump plug sealing rings.

Here's a question I've often asked myself but never knew the answer.

Where you change engine oil and replace the sealing ring on the sump plug,
is there something special (materials/dimensions) about the Alfa Romeo part
or will any new ring of the correct dimensions do the job?
