Distributor - kaput or OK?

Hi,

While changing the rotor on my 82 Spider distributor, the entire shaft on
which the rotor resides came up (the rotor was stuck to it via rust).  Now I
can put the shaft (and new rotor) right back in and it all works fine, but,
can I expect this thing to disintegrate or is this correct - the cap holds the
shaft and the rotor down?
