AlfaMiniInnocenti

Sorry if this is duplication -- as usual, I'm catching up on a month's
Digests during a lull, and look forward to finding out what is 'The
Shame of Portello' -- but in the Mini thread, did anyone mention those
made under licence in Italy by Innocenti, now pronounced 'fee-yat'?

John Hertzman will correct me, but I believe Innocenti made Lambretta
motorscooters and Minis. They continued after the UK quit, and you can
still see lots of nice Innocenti Minis in Italy, recognizable by larger
wheels, 14"?, and badging. They eventually, 1980s, made their own
mini-derivative with a Daihatsu 3-cylinder. A charming secretary at the
Centre Oceanologique de Bretagne had a charming example in purple. There
was briefly a dealership in Ottawa, and a few are still on the road
here, including in the Quebec film '2 Second(e)s'

In Arese in 1994, the Innocenti branch of Fiat occupied offices in the
Alfa Romeo branch

Ciao!
