Trunklid springs

Ted in Vancouver asked:

"Is there a special way or special tool of removing
the trunk (boot) support springs and repositioning
them to better hold the trunk open? Both a body shop
and my Alfa specialist tried and said the springs were
too strong to
handle and there must be some kind of tool to do this.
Vice grips does not seem to be a creditable answer."

Glad he asked that, 'cause it reminded me that I'm
having a similar quandary with my '72 Berlina. It
LOOKS like it oughta be so simple, and if I had
muscles of steel it probably would be, but I don't,
and it ain't. I can see what kind of apparatus would
be needed, but don't know if it exists...
