transmission and suspension questions - 79 spider

While I was under my spider this afternoon I noticed a couple of things that
don't look right.

On the prop shaft, behind the rear shaft, the ring nut was loose - not even
finger tight. I tightened it with a pair of slip joint pliers. I have read all
the instructions that I can find on the prop shaft, but I can find no
reference to how tight the ring nut should be.

There are significant gaps (maybe 1/4") between the bushings at the front of
the trailing arms and the plates between which they hang. Is this normal?

Also, is there a test to determine if the bushings in the trailing arm need to
be replaced?

Any good advice will be appreciated.
