re: Porsche 911, can pigs fly?

hi michael,

i bet yure bracing for a ton-o-replies, eh? ;~) two tings ya say that i wonder about. the first:

"Only people who love Porsches like them even a tiny bit. Every one else
thinks they are totally unsatisfactory cars and wouldn't dream of buying
one. People who have never driven them think they must be great..."

as i assume yure talking about the 911, here's all i can add, from the perspective of one who hasn't driven one. i tink they're prolly nice, but, as i've mentioned prewiously, not what *i'd* choose first, at any given price point... i'd be surprised if i'm the only one who feels this way, & i'd also be surprised if there are not lotsa porsche 911 drivers who like 'em a lot, but *don't* tink they are *it*, as far as sports-cars go. your generalization may speak more to harley-davidson motorcycles, but even here, i don't tink it's the rule...

then, there's yer second assertion:

"Then again, most German cars are poor street machines..."

well, methinks this is somewhat analagous to what winston churchill said of democracy: "it's the worst form of government in the world - except for all the others." i tink the VAST MAJORITY of KNOWLEDGABLE car & motorsports enthusiasts wood not only disagree w/ya, but, in fact wood say most german street machines are at, or near the TOP of the heap, when it comes to street machines.

sure, i love my alfas, but i tink, dollar-for-dollar, the german streetcars are in the top group...

regards,

doug s.
