Water pump removal 164
I replaced my water pump a few weeks ago when it blew out. The whole
procedure took me 4 hours - I was very proud out myself.
The original water pump has a bulge in the casting that makes it difficult
to remove. The new ones do not have the same bulge!
I could not get my water pump out. I removed the pulley off the oil pump,
but the crank needed to go too. I decided to cut though the housing of the
water pump with my dremel tool to get it broken into two pieces. Removal
was then easy. Took 3 minutes of cutting. The only concern was metal
shavings getting into the coolant, but I covered all holes before using
the dremel tool.
Do I recommend this? Not sure. It sure ain't elegant!
