administrivia: categorizing postings

i've seen some talk about categorization, location, etc.
on postings to the digest.

the bmw digest did this a long time ago, on their own. i
refrained from suggesting it here, in large part because this list
developed its own, distinct character. i will not mandate any scheme
for labeling of articles, but will gently suggest that clear labeling
of subjects might be considered a courteous thing to do.

a subject line that says something like

Subject: 105 GTV brakes

gives a pretty good idea what is inside to the casual reader, and
moreover, it makes it easy to search in the new web enabled archives.

i see no need to standardize the format (something the bimmer folks
were a little picky about) because we can all read for comprehension
(i hope) and the search engine isn't all that picky, so long as it
recognizes the words. so consider including the model of car if there
is one, the series number if you know it, some subject matter that
helps categorize what it is, and if the location matters, throw that
in too.

don't do it because i told you to do it, and don't do it because other
digest readers are complaining about it, do it because it's the nice
thing to do.

cheers,
  richard
