brown film on back of spider

Hi gang,

I'm having a minor ~issue~ with my newly restored spider ('74 spider,
SPICA). I'm getting a brown-ish film on the back of the car, above the tail
pipe (Stebro rear, straight type). The film will start to form after a maybe
50 miles of driving and after couple of hundred, it looks down right nasty.
I'm not sure what is causing it (doesn't seem oily) and it wouldn't simply
wipe off. I need to wax it off ... takes some rubbing - PITA!
FWIW, I never see ~smoke~ in the rear view mirror, while driving.

Some of my thoughts are:
1) Stebro exhaust not sending exhaust gases out the back of the car far
enough when at a stop
2) motor is still breaking in, ~4000 miles (I'm not using ~much~ oil though)
3) SPICA running too rich (spark plugs looking O.K. though)
4) some other NASTY problem, I don't even want to think about. (compression
all above 150)

any help out there?
