I used the smaller filter for a recent oil change on my 95 LS.  Since the new unit is shorter, it's easier to maneuver past the wheel well, power steering lines, etc., and onto the block.  It's still a messy job, though.   

When I first bought the car some fool had installed a way-too-long Fram filter that was a bitch to remove.
