Lancia Flaminia /Some history

The Lancia Flaminia is a fine car and are considered
by many to be "ancestors" to the transaxle V-6 Alfas,
as are the earlier Lancia Aurelias.  Both these Lancia
models used the rear transaxle, inboard brakes and de
Dion tube configuration. The Aurelia had the world's
first production V-6 engine, starting out in 2L form
and then in winding up as a 2.5L engine.

Lancia was a completely independent company from FIAT
up until 1969 when FIAT purchased them.  Ford Mtr. Co.
was trying to buy the company at this point as well.
 
After the '55 F1 racing season Lancia ceased all of
it's F1 racing efforts due to a lack of financing ie
poor money management and literally gave all their
double over head cam V-8 powered racers over to
Ferrari.  The Torino concern never fully recovered
from this financial set-back (or rather it could not
keep up with FIAT in making money, few in Italy could)
and this eventually set the stage for Lancia to become
a financial wreck by the late '60s.
