re: Milano dash vent cable

hi george,

i had a similar problem w/my 1st werde - ewe couldnt' get air outta the defrost wents. the problem was at the dial, not at the other end - the clip securing the cable sheath had snapped off behind the knob. so, when turning the knob, the whole cabling sheath moved, not the cable inside it. i ended-up securing it w/a wery small hose-clamp... (hear that andy - that's how the hvac-directionals work in yer car!) ;~) anyways, it's not really too hard to get at - gotta pull the center console out 1st, & there's screws hiding, i remember one at the bottom of the storage bin between the seats. don't force anyting - lotsa plastic bits to snap off... :>) but, it's really not too difficult, ewe can figure it out as ya go - it was one of the 1st repairs i ever made on an alfa, before i ever heard of the alfa digest, & even before i splurged for a shop manual from iap...

of course, if yure rite, & the cable is snapped at the *other* end, well, i've never been there, & the manual will prolly come in handy... ;~) but, i guess, it *is* possible that it's still not far beyond the front controls: everyting is centrally-located on the hvac systems in the milanos. perhaps someone else has been there and can adwize...

good luck,

doug s.

Subject: Milano dash vent cable

I need help! The cable controling the ventilation exits from the dash
(ie the left dial in the control panel) is jammed. Obviously something
has the the flappers in the vents frozen. I'm trying to figure out how
to fix the problem. It seems that to get to the flapper end of the
cable the entire dash has to come out?? If there is another way to fix
it, or if someone can give me some help on getting all the panels out so
they'll go back, I'd appreciate it. This seems to be the reason the PO
didn't fix it!!

Thanks,

George Loeb
