85 GTV-6 speedo Q

About a month ago, I bought my second Alfa. A fine example that took me over
7 month to find. All is well so far. Have a few issues to work on but
nothing major. Had the opportunity to get the car out on the track twice now
since purchase, and I am starting to feel more comfortable driving the car
at speed. Quite a different Alfa then my spider. Love the torque and the
power up to 7000 RPM's. Now on an Alfa day it is fun to decide which car to
drive. 
 
Here is my question......the speedo seems to be pretty accurate at low
speeds say under 50, but for some reason it doesn't go beyond 80-85? I know
for a fact that I was pacing other cars in 95-110 range on the straights but
my speedo never read higher than 85. Help me out here -what's going on?
Thoughts please.
