Milano Rear Deck Speakers

Peter,

I put a pair of blaupunkt 5x7's in on the rear deck of my Milano, but it was
tight and took most of a Saturday to install them.

If you peek under the grills you will find there is very little mounting
depth available. I ended up "clearancing" the metal underneath the
fiberboard deck surface so that the voice coils were not just sitting on
metal, (which would drastically reduces their power!) I used an air hammer
but I wish I had simply cut holes to take advantage of trunks volume for
increased bass response.

I had to cut the fiberboard deck surface and construct "gaskets" out of wall
paneling to seal oval speakers into the square holes.

I was able to use the stock speaker grills by cutting away all the
extraneous plastic with a dremal tool. This was important to me as I wanted
to keep the stock grills for appearance.

The I'm happy with the sound but I can tell the 5x7's want a larger "box" or
air volume than the rear deck alone can provide.

If you want to make the install simple I would use 5x7 "plate speakers with
rectangular grills and a shallow mounting depth.

Good Luck!
