re: Mullins and ROH wheels from Oz

I think it was Michael Smith from Canada asking about Mullins and ROH wheels
made in Australia and on sale in Canada (I apologise for not replying
directly to you Mike, but I've deleted the original message)

Although I've had no direct experience with both these wheel manufacturers,
my perception is that they both have a pretty good reputation here in
Australia. This would be especially so with Mullins (their factory/warehouse
is just down the road here in North Melbourne) who are probably at the top
of the "respected tree".

My opinion only, although many years ago I did have the privilege of cutting
aluminium wheels (not Mullins or ROH) up for metallurgical examination as
part of a Uni project. The range in quality then (early 80's) was quite
large, although I know as a fact that many of those manufacturers producing
the poorer quality castings either went out of business or were forced to
update their practises to keep up with the opposition. I think you'll find
that if a company is taking the risk of exporting to North America, they'll
have made sure that quality is their number one priority (in terms of
preventing litigation). Any of the backyarders that may or may still not be
operating wouldn't even dream of exporting.
