Alfa and DaimlerChrysler

There has been speculation in the past few months that DaimlerChrysler, in
search of a smalll car platform, would buy out FIAT. Indeed, there have been
reported discussions between the two companies. On Friday, one of the
financial newspapers reported that DC had made an offer to purchase 30
percent of Mitsubishi. Apparently, the main sticking point right now is that
DC must also buy out Ford's share of a Ford/Mitsubishi joint venture, and
the value of the joint venture is in dispute. If the DC takeover of
Mitusishi occurs, there is very little chance DC would end up buying FIAT.
