GTV6 Alternator light

In no.1408, Robert asked about his GTV6 battery light glowing when the =
headlights are on bright, but not when on normal. Well this could be a =
genuine charging fault (you can check that with a voltmeter across your =
battery terminals, engine running, lights on bright then normal), but then =
again it could be the traditional false glow that Alfas are prone to give =
on their charge warning lights in some circumstances. This sometimes =
arises when certain specific loads are turned on (typically wipers and =
heater blowers), and sometimes just when any really heavy loads are turned =
on (e.g. headlights on full.!). Either way, the cause is the same, and =
it's a high-resistance connection somewhere in the circuit involving the =
charge warning lamp and the alternator-regulator and field. I've alaways =
found it to be the traditonal dirty fuse and holder..... just identify the =
one which is involved in the charge lamp cct, and clean that. Give it a =
go, as this might be all you need to do. If this doesn't fix the glowing, =
then probably it's not the false-indication issue after all, and I guess =
you'll need to make the voltmeter check to confirm whether there's a =
genuine problem.
