Will Synthetic Oil Damage My Spider?

I don't want to start any flame wars, but I need some advice regarding
synthetic oil. My current Spider is a 1990 Graduate with only 12K miles and
I will be changing the oil shortly. With all of the talk about the
advantages of using synthetic oils, I am seriously considering using Mobil 1
exclusively in the car. While I am well aware of the advantages of
synthetic oils, I am concern about some negative aspects of using synthetic.
Besides the possibility of new oil leaks when using synthetic oil, I have
also heard that "sludge" from the prior non-synthetic oil can buildup in the
engine and cause a lot of damage. Can anyone give me some advice as to
whether or not I should use synthetic oil in a Spider. I live in NJ where
we experience all 4 seasons and I religiously change my oil every 3K miles.
TIA.
