According to CNW Marketing/Research the percentage of cars leased in 1990 
was 8%. The peak of 34% was in 1997 and in 1999 it was 32.4% and is falling 
slightly. Leasing is much more profitable to dealers and thus the push for 
it. At the Honda dealer I worked at the salesmen got an extra $50 if they 
persuaded the customer to lease.
