Kim Boydells problem with a thump when taking off in his Spider sounds very
similar to the symptoms I had on my 69 1750 Spider.  It only happened when
taking off from rest, several thumps in my case, and there was no other
noise or vibration at any speed.  For me the fix was replacing the Universal
Joint in the drive shaft.
