compare favourably with the discomfort and aggravation of chains by the
side of the road, not to mention the risk of bodywork damage etc when the
chains break or otherwise disconnect.

Michael, local regs say: up the mountain, either open w/o restrictions, or 2
choices (mostly):
4WD with snow tires vs. chains.  My Milano could only go on chains.  Bummer.
