Putting a 4-cyl spider engine in a Milano?

Just wondering, can I legally swap in a later model engine, i.e.
from a motronic spider into my Milano? All I need is to get it to
be a 4-cylinder car legally. after that... how does 1.8, Garret
T-3, weber-marelli efi, 3" exhaust, SPEARCO intercooler and 270
bhp sound ? ;-)
