AC retrofits

A string of informative, well-reasoned postings have detailed the technical
challenges and financial costs of retrofitting air conditioning to 105
Alfas that did not have it originally. Since the thread on AC seems to
have originated in the USA, where going without AC is considered
unthinkable, I respectfully suggest an alternative to the rigors of
scrounging 20-year old components and fabricating brackets: an American
land sled. Yep, I mean another car. For less than the cost of
retrofitting AC into an Alfa, you can buy a full-size Ford or GM sedan to
drive when it's too hot, cold, wet, or whatever to drive a classic Alfa.
The performance of such a sedan may not be the stuff of legends, but they
are dirt cheap and the Big 3 do a great job with AC. Other advantages to
the full-size sedan: you can put a hitch on it and tow the Alfa, boat, or
anything you want; it's a great SUV substitute; when it breaks (it will),
you can go for parts in the Alfa. Now there's justice!
