Subject: Marvel Mystery Oil?
I bet this has already been discussed, if so, I'd appreciate a reference.
A long time ago, this lubricant was recommended to me as a gas additive
that would be good for my spica injection pump when leaded gas became
unavailable. Recently a friend recommended Marvel to me as an oil
additive to cure a recently (and suddenly) developed oil burning problem
he attributed to stuck piston rings. I'm leary of chemical cures,
especially for engines that burn oil. Any Digesters want to share their
experience?

Although I have used Marvel Mystery Oil for years, I have never dumped it
in the crankcase nor in the gas tank. However, the instructions on the can
say that is what it is designed for.
I keep a squirt oil can full of it for all sorts of things. It most
often gets squirted into air tools for lubrication. I have used it when
installing piston rings in a rebuilt engine and I have dumped it down spark
plug holes to free stuck rings or when an engine has sat for long periods. I
have filled Spica pumps with it prior to storage. I use it as a general
purpose light weight oil with good penetrating and cleaning ability.
How it works is a mystery, but it is a marvel.
Ciao,
