'82 spider idle problem

Aflisti,
  The car cold starts perfectly, runs for about 30-45 seconds and then dies.  
it restarts fine, but until it gets warmed up will continually die at idle  
unless you feather the throttle.
  Now, to me this indicates the auxilary air valve, except for this... the 
aux. air valve is stuck in the OPEN position, it never closes down.
Any ideas?
